Teaching Philosophy

Welcome! If you've found your way to this page, we've likely already worked together or we're about to begin. This is a note to let you know where my approach to voice work originates. My background is as a music director for musical theatre - I spent 15 years in NYC as a vocal coach, conducted several national Broadway tours, and teach on the faculty of NYU's Experimental Theater Wing. Over that time I completed a Master's degree in the field of Speech-Language Pathology, with a focus in voice therapy, accent addition, and gender affirming voice work. The work I do now is an accumulation of my experience as a vocal coach, storyteller, and vocal science devotee. My mission is to help each person live in the land of joyful curiosity as we grow, stretch, and amplify our voices - whether the goal is to increase range and stamina for singing, or design a speaking voice that is reflective of the most true version of oneself.

Cancellation Policy

In an effort to keep the studio afloat and affordable, I observe a 24-hr cancellation policy. Please email, call, or text within 24 hours of your appointment time to avoid being charged the full rate. With earlier notice, I'm happy to reschedule to a better date and time.

Before we begin…

Vocal Health: Please let me know if you have any voice injuries or conditions that will inform our work together. This information will be kept confidential, and can help me understand more about your unique instrument. If you're feeling under the weather or vocally fatigued in the days leading up to our appointment, it may be best to reschedule.

What to expect: As we work towards practicing your ideal voice, you can expect to experiment in the unstable places in your range. Honking, cracking, and yodeling are all essential parts of the process - making sure you have a comfortable place to play (without the judgment of nearby family or neighbors) is important before diving in. Voice homework can be fun, and at times it can be tedious. It's important to incorporate exercises into your daily routine in whatever way works for you. The speed of your progress is directly related to the consistency of time spent in independent practice.

Hydration and Rest: While these are often the first self-care routines to be sacrificed in times of stress - they are the most important components of vocal health. In order to allow your voice to do the most growing and changing, strive for drinking half your weight in ounces of water every day (adding an extra 8oz for every cup of coffee or caffeinated beverage.)

Logistics: We will be meeting together using Zoom. If you aren't familiar with the "original sound" function - please follow these instructions so that we can hear each other as well as possible.
